Macula degeneration
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a common eye disease in older people. This disease of the retina can lead within a few months to significant visual impairment or blindness. It is the most common cause of blindness in developed nations.
As metabolic activity also changes during the aging process, damage to the macula (yellow spot) on the retina can occur.
From the age of 50 (at the latest), everyone should have an ophthalmological check-up every 2 years - risk groups more often.
